Toulon Hyeres airport's commitments

Toulon Hyères airport achieves zero net CO2 emissions*.

Since 2016, Toulon Hyères Airport has implemented an environmental action plan under the impulse of VINCI Airports, which has managed the airport since 2015.
Between 2018 and 2022, the airport has reduced its direct CO2 emissions by 92.5% thanks to:

  • The implementation of an energy-saving policy (presence detectors, temperature set points...).
  • Replacement of lighting in the terminal and in the aircraft parking area with LEDs;
  • Replacement of an oil boiler with heat pumps;
  • The use of electric or biofuel-powered ramp vehicles; and
  • The subscription to a guaranteed renewable electricity contract.

In addition, and to sequester residual emissions, Toulon airport has joined forces with the Région Sud, the Office National des Forêts, the Communauté de Communes Méditerranée Portes des Maures and the Commune du Lavandou in a project to reforest a plot in the Lavandou forest.

Toulon airport is also taking action to support all the airport’s users in decarbonizing their activities. This is reflected in the provision of sustainable aviation biofuels (SAF), the application of an eco-modulation of landing fees linked to aircraft CO2 emissions to encourage airlines to equip themselves with less emissive aircraft, the supply of decarbonized electricity to aircraft and the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles for passengers.

Toulon Hyères airport's efforts were rewarded late 2023, during COP 28 by the Airports Council International (ACI). It was awarded the highest level of recognition for its program, Airport Carbone Accreditation** level 5 (ACA 5). The airport becomes the 1st commercial airport in France to achieve this level, and one of the ten most advanced airports in the world in terms of decarbonization. (ACA5

Toulon airport installed a new solar power plant on the P3 parking lot. The plant covers 180 parking spaces and can produce up to 650 MWh per year. The extra production will be injected into the urban grid. This is the first of two solar power plants of the airport. The next, scheduled for 2026, will cover 630 parking spaces.
